Getting to Scarborough

As has been the case since time immemorial, Scarborough retains good links to the rest of the country, although despite the best efforts of continental drift it remains somewhat remote so getting there may still take some time. The nearest large town continues to be York, less than an hour's train ride away and about an hour by car. It's a lovely walk, but we'd advise against that, as the A64 isn't great.

By car

The A64 is the main road in and out of Scarborough and is mostly fast and easy to drive on, however it can get very busy during the summer months. There is no free parking, the nearby car park (Northstead Upper/Lower, YO12 6PF) costs £10.80 for a day and accepts cards and payment by phone (via RingGo), or at least it did as of July 2024. Also, turns out there's a second car park by the Sea Life centre that's the same price (Scalby Mills, YO12 6RP). This is about the same distance as the other car park, and your ticket is even transferable between them so if you wanted to move your car for whatever reason throughout the day, you can. You can't drive along the promenade, however. Unless you're Pulp, Pulp are apparently allowed to drive along the promenade as of 2023.

By train

Most trains to Scarborough are run by Transpennine Express, who run services to and from York, Leeds and Manchester, which seem slightly less weird than in the past and since they got rid of the Mk5s. Historically we told you to buy your tickets from one of those websites but that's before they introduced split ticketing at thetrainline.com so just buy your tickets there cos they'll be cheaper, even with their booking fee.

The train station is about a 30 minute walk from the venue, so be sure to factor this in when considering train times home. Live train and journey information can be found on the National Rail website.

By bus

There's both local buses and coach services to Scarborough. Transdev's Coastliner runs from Leeds and York, while Megabus and National Express both serve Scarborough. The Coastliner only costs £3 for a single, so honestly might be your best bet.

Overnight stays

Cabincon is not an overnight event - we're only running for the one day! However, you may wish to stay the night at one of Scarborough's many hotels and guesthouses. I think we're on the last weekend of the school year, so it's not quite summer holiday rates but it might be close.

There's also a campsite not too far away, and you may want to club together with some furries to get a plot there if you like, it's cheap. Baz did it in 2019 and seemed to enjoy it!
